It won’t pay for all of your holiday shopping. (Even though some doctors I’ve shared this with are using it to make themselves upwards of $2,000.00 or more a month).

But, it can quite easily bring you a few hundred extra dollars between now and holiday time. And, with just a few minutes of work.

You’ve heard the statistic about 50% of marriages ending in divorce in the United States, right?

Well, it’s incorrect.

According to the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology; 50% percent of first marriages, 67% of second and 74% of third marriages end in divorce.

One of the most common reasons given?

Irreconcilable Differences.

One or both spouses will often chalk up their failed marriage to the idea that they simply married the “wrong person”.

While I may not agree with that line of thinking when it comes to marriage… I do believe it has validity when applied to your chiropractic practice and patient-base.

Are You Treating The Wrong Chiropractic Patients?

Many chiropractors don’t spend enough time, if any at all, thinking about the type of patients they would ideally like to be treating.

Instead, they jump into practice, quickly engage in various marketing or advertising activities, and give little thought to WHO is going to be attracted with their promotional methods and approach.

Often, this leads to the unintentional engineering of a chiropractic practice that’s a far cry from what the doctor dreamed of having.

Fact is: patient retention, lifetime value, long-term cash flow, and personal and professional fulfillment are directly tied to the type of patients you’re attracting and treating each day.

So, it serves you to spend whatever time necessary to get clarity on your answer to the following question:

“What kind of patient do I really want to treat?”

Try to be as specific and descriptive as possible.

Once you’ve got the necessary clarity on WHO you want to treat, now it’s time to review your marketing and advertising to see if your message effectively speaks to, and resonates with, that audience.

In other words, now that you know WHO you want to attract, it’s time to make sure your marketing and advertising is designed to attract just those folks (and ideally repel the patients you don’t want).

This is the key to achieving your ideal practice by intentionally filling your practice with the correct type of patients for your vision.

Now, if you want a little confirmation that you’ve performed the above steps correctly, here’s a great exercise for you to do. Actually, it’s 3 questions to answer.

#1. How would you describe the type of chiropractor you ultimately want to be and what maximum success would look like?

#2. What other chiropractor out there in practice today is an example of your description from question #1 above?

#3. Who are they (the ideal chiropractor from #2) attracting and treating in their office?

Armed with this information, you can now to do a valuable comparison.

Look at who you believe to be your ideal patients. And compare them with the patients being attracted and treated by the chiropractor you believe represents the success you’re after.

This will very quickly show you whether you’re targeting the right or wrong audience.

And, will tell you a heck of a lot about whether you’re engaging in a relationship with patients who will inevitably lead you to the conclusion that they’re just “not right for you”.

Yesterday, Google launched Google+ Pages for businesses, brands, etc.

I predict the Google+ Pages are going to have an impact on SEO and rankings in the near future.

So, I recommend you claim a Google+ Page for your chiropractic practice right away.

Below is an awesome explanation of how to do it from SearchEngineLand.com. (This is a great site, by the way, to keep you up to date on the latest in SEO for your chiropractic website)

Creating A Page

Within two days or sooner, everyone is supposed to be able to make pages by using the Create A Page tool. Availability is rolling out now, so if you get an “Google+ Pages isn’t ready” error, keep checking back. (NOTE: Google now says everyone should have access).

Assuming you do have access, I’ll start with what you see when making a page for the “Product or Brand” category, though the steps work the same for any category of page other than local (more on that below).

Once you begin, you get simple form back:

You enter the name you want for your Google+ page, the URL you want to associate that page with on an external website (this is optional), a category for your page (a range from Aerospace to Travel is offered), along with who your content is appropriate for (anyone, 18+, 21+ and alcohol-related).

Hit the Create button, and you’ll get a new page where you can add:

10 word tag line to describe your page

Profile photo for your page

You can actually go longer than 10 words. Nothing prevents this. It’s really that if you go long, not everything will show.

After your done, hit save, and your done.

Local Business Or Place

Local businesses get special listings, and it all starts after you choose the “Local” option by entering a phone number.

Google+ is very picky, insisting the number be entered with a + before your countrycode (in the US, this means +1), followed by the phone number separated by dashes.

To test, I entered the number of a local pizza place. That brought up an existing listing from Google Places:

If this wasn’t correct, or if my business wasn’t listed, I could have selected another option. But since it is, clicking on it automatically fills in some of the information needed for Google Plus:

You’re unable to move the map marker, if that’s incorrect. You can change the address, however, which in turn moves the marker. There are also options to pick your category of business (Food, Lodging, Storage and more are listed) and select who your content is appropriate for (anyone, 18+, 21+ and alcohol-related).

Pimping Your Page

Now that your page is created, you can pimp it out with more information, if you want. Here’s the basic page that I made for my personal blog, Daggle:

The first arrow points at the page title, the second at the tag line. The third points at additional ways I could update my page, through the About area. When logged in, I see this:

Below, you can see that I’ve added a link from the Google+ page back to my actual blog, plus I’ve added a little intro text:

Posting As Your Page

Once you’ve made your page, you’ll also likely find that Google is showing you a notice that you’re now on Google+ as if you’re the page yourself. Here’s how it looks:

In other words, any action you take will be coming from the page you’ve made. That’s how you begin to update your page’s content with photos or videos.

For instance, here I’m logged in, about to share a post from my blog through the blog’s page on Google Plus:

Once I hit share, that post went out to my page — and in turn went out to anyone who follows the page.

Similarly, I could add photos or video. One nice thing is that you can easily enter the URL of any YouTube video you might have, so that you add that video to your page without having to upload:

Managing Your Pages

It’s perfectly acceptable for you to have multiple pages. If you’re a business with several popular products, you might want pages for both the business and the products.

Google itself does this, with a page for Gmail existing separately from Google.

You could also do pages for particular events, though right now, there’s no event-specific type of support, as you’d find with Facebook, such as to designate a particular date.

To get to managing all your pages, look up at whatever profile picture is shown in the top left corner, then click on the drop-down arrow:

The drop-down option (shown with the first arrow) makes a list of all your pages appear, so that you can switch while logged in and act as if you are one of them.

At the bottom of the menu, a “Manage your pages” link brings up a list of all your pages:

You can then delete any page you don’t want, which is what I did with that pizza place one I created as part of the testing. Using the Manage button, you can also switch accounts.

More Information & Follow Us!

Once you’ve created your pages, you’ll also want to take steps to link those back to your website, because there are some additional benefits you get from doing this.

Our previous article, Google+ Pages Now Open For Businesses, Brands, Places & More, explains more about this. It also covers a number of other details to keep in mind. Perhaps most important is that right now, whoever creates your page will be the sole owner of that page, for your company. They won’t have a way to let someone else manage it.

This will change in the near future. But for the time being, it means that if you have a dedicated social media manager, that person should use their personal account to create your company page.

Speaking of branded pages, Search Engine Land has its own now. So add Search Engine Land to your Google+ circles and keep up with us there, if you’re part of the Google+ network.

“Admins of Facebook Pages can now mention people within comments on Page posts. Page admins can only mention people who have commented on a post originating from the Page.
To mention someone, simply type @ followed by their name. Keep in mind, you can still only mention Fans that have commented on a post. And, your response must be in the same comment thread. Regardless, it’s still a very cool, useful new feature.

In recent months, having a top chiropractic Google Maps listing for your practice has become extremely valuable.
Aside from having a chiropractic website that generates a consistent stream of leads; a top Google Maps listing is the most essential online property you can have as a chiropractor.
Here’s why:
Reason #1: Local Chiropractic Search Results
For [...]

<g:plusone size="tall" count="1" href="http://morechiropatients.com/blog/chiropractic-marketing-articles/5-things-every-chiropractor-should-consider-about-google-maps"></g:plusone>

Reading time: 3 – 5 minutes

In recent months, having a top chiropractic Google Maps listing for your practice has become extremely valuable.

Aside from having a chiropractic website that generates a consistent stream of leads; a top Google Maps listing is the most essential online property you can have as a chiropractor.

Here’s why:

Reason #1: Local Chiropractic Search Results

For most of the top local keywords and keyword phrases being entered into Google by prospective chiropractic patients, the results they now see are primarily Google Maps listings. In these cases, the traditional organic chiropractic listings have been pushed down on the page. And, at the top of Google are now the Maps listings.

The reason for this is simple…

Google and the other search engines are seeing a steady increase in the volume of searches being done on mobile devices. And, according to Google, 1/3 of all mobile searches are done with local intent. So, some time ago Google committed to focusing more on localized listings – their Google Maps listings – and made the change to their search algorithm.

What this means for you is that if you want to appear at the top of Google when a prospective patient searches for a chiropractor in your geographic area, you need to be at the top of the Google Maps area.

Reason #2: The Google Maps 7-Pack Action

As SEOmoz recently proved with the release of their Google Eye-Tracking Study; when the 7-pack of Google Maps listings are shown in Google, they get the majority of clicks from searchers. Specifically, the top Google Maps listing gets the majority of clicks.

Once again demonstrating that the top spot in Google Maps is extremely valuable for a chiropractor.

Reason #3: Mobile Is Google Places

Viewing search results on a mobile device (i.e. iPhone) isn’t like viewing results on a computer. Mobile results – specifically Google Maps listings – now offer clickable phone numbers.

What this means is that when prospective patients search for a chiropractor on their mobile device, the primary results they see are Google Maps listings that offer one-click calling. Which leads to me to Reason #4…

Reason #4: The Quality Of Mobile

In May 2011, Clickz.com reported that 77% of mobile searchers (with local intent) have contacted a business they’ve found, with 61% calling and 59% visiting.

In other words, almost 8 out 10 people doing a local search on their mobile device take action. Clickz.com goes on to report that 88% of those people take action within a day.

What this means for you as a chiropractor is that with a top Google Maps listing being shown to mobile searchers, your practice is exposed to a growing body of serious action takers.

Reason #5: The Little Microformat Ranking Trick

As I’m sharing this week with our Millionaire Chiropractic Club members, there’s a cool copy-and-paste tweak all chiropractors can make to the “About Us” page on your website that, testing has shown, leads to a big, big boost in your Google Maps rankings.

Without getting too technical – especially since the execution is just a simple copy-and-paste – there’s a brand new way to make your practice name and address (on your website) super-readable by both prospective patient visitors to your website AND the Google search engine spider. This is easily accomplished by pasting a couple lines of code onto the About Us page.

When done, Google then associates your website with your Google Places page, and because of this new “Google language”, ends up boosting your chiropractic Google Maps rankings (according to testing).

Sounds complicated, I know. It’s not though.

“Successful people ask better questions, and as a result, they get better answers.” – Tony Robbins

My friend Pete Williams – often referred to as Australia’s Richard Branson, and a finalist in running for the Ernst & Young 2010 Entrepreneur of the Year Award – recently shared a fantastic list of 9 questions every small business owner should ask themselves everyday.

Below is a recap of those questions… tweaked ever so slightly for you as a chiropractor.

Question #1: How many patient acquisition offers have you made today?

At the root of this question is the idea that patient acquisition is a numbers game.

The more prospective patients you present the opportunity of chiropractic to each day – whether one-on-one, via a health talk or virtual health talk, or via automated online chiropractic marketing video systems – the more new patients you will acquire.

Question #2: When was the last time you did something for the first time?

Without new experiences life can very quickly become mundane and boring. This question helps to hold you accountable for getting out of your comfort zone and experiencing the thrill of new things.

Question #3: What did you do today that you shouldn’t have?

At the root of effective time management is the ability to eliminate non-important, non-urgent, non-necessary tasks. This question helps you to maintain an eye on the activities you either need to delegate or simply eliminate altogether.

Question #4: What didn’t you do today that you should have?

Of course, on the flip-side of eliminating tasks you shouldn’t be doing, is the inclusion of tasks and actions you should be doing that you’re not.

Question #5: Did you drink at least 36 ounces of water and eat two pieces of fruit?

This question is really just a simple way of holding yourself accountable for taking care of the most important asset you have – your health. You can certainly customize this question by adding in a few more other positive health rituals (i.e. exercise, meditation, vitamins, etc.).

Question #6: What is the primary focus of _____________?

This is a question you can and should ask several times throughout the day. The purpose is to make sure you’re crystal clear on why you’re doing anything at any given moment. This question can and should also be applied to marketing campaigns, staff meetings, new office rules or policies, etc.

Question #7: What am I asking too much of?

This question is designed to make sure you’re not expecting too much from any one activity, task, employee, marketing piece, etc.

Question #8: What mechanical work did I do today?

What work, tasks, activities, etc., are you doing that doesn’t require any significant level of creativity, thinking, training. These are activities that should be taken off of your plate and delegated to a team member, vendor, or freelancer.

Question #9: How can I monetize our practice “waste”?

This is an AWESOME question. Very powerful, if applied to an open mind. Let me explain this question by first giving you an example…

While watching the production line for the Model T, Henry Ford noticed there were lots of scraps of wood in the end.

He took those scraps and learned how to turn them into charcoal briquets.

Later, he built an entire charcoal plant and launched Ford Charcoal (later renamed Kingsford Charcoal).

Today, Kingsford is still the leading manufacturer of charcoal in the United States – a very, very profitable venture.

What Ford did was take something that was at one time waste or a by-product in his business, and monetized it.

Many barber shops and beauty salons do the same thing when they donate their hair trimmings to charities who make wigs for cancer patients.

Many chiropractors have done this by renting out a portion of their office to a massage therapist. Or, allowing a massage therapist to use their facility on non-office days.

This is a clear example of taking something that at one time was waste – an empty office that’s already being paid for – and turned it into a new source of money.

Where else in your office or your practice actions is waste that can be monetized?

Every chiropractor should watch this video.
Not only does it explain the keys to creating a fun and enjoyable culture in any business or practice.
More importantly for chiropractors, it shares a great and HYSTERICAL example & case study of how marketing can change the perception of an ordinary product (or service).

I recommend you watch the entire video in one sitting. It’s only 14 minutes or so. And well worth every minute.

(Think about how you can apply the principles shared in the middle of the video to your chiropractic marketing)
